This Privacy Policy explains what information Lab Brewer (labbrewer.com) collects, why, and what you can do about it. Plain language, no legalese marathons.
Who we are
Lab Brewer is an independent review site for Asian tea ware, run by one person in Canada. If you have any question about your information, email contact@labbrewer.com.
Information we collect
- Newsletter: if you sign up, we collect your email address and a record that you agreed to receive our emails (date and time of signup). We also see basic stats like whether an email was opened or a link was clicked, so we know what readers find useful.
- Comments: if you leave a comment, we collect your name, email address, comment, and your IP address and browser details. This helps us fight spam. Your email address is never shown publicly.
- Contact messages: anything you send to us by email.
- Site analytics: we use Independent Analytics, which runs on our own server and does not use cookies. To count visits, it turns your IP address and browser details into a one-way scrambled ID and uses your IP address to estimate your country and city. It also records the pages you view and the site you came from. This data stays on our server and is not shared with anyone.
- Server and security logs: like every website, our hosting provider automatically logs basic technical details (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) to keep the site running and secure.
Affiliate links and Amazon
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. When you click an Amazon link on our site, Amazon may place or read cookies in your browser so it can credit us if you buy something. Some product pictures and buttons on our pages are loaded directly from Amazon, which means Amazon may receive your IP address and browser details when you view those pages.
That information is handled by Amazon under the Amazon Privacy Notice. You can opt out of interest-based ads from Amazon on its Advertising Preferences page, and you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time.
How we use your information
- To send the newsletter you asked for.
- To publish and moderate comments, and fight spam.
- To answer your messages.
- To understand which reviews are useful and improve the site.
- To keep the site secure and working.
We don’t sell your personal information. Ever. We don’t use it for advertising profiles either.
Who we share it with
Only the services we need to run the site, and only for that purpose:
- Hostinger hosts the website and its database.
- Brevo stores our newsletter list and sends our emails. Brevo is based in France and stores data in the European Union.
- Amazon, as described above, when you click or view Amazon links and images.
We use Google Search Console to see how our pages appear in Google search results. It shows us totals (such as how many people clicked a search result), not information about individual visitors.
Because these providers operate in other countries, your information may be stored or processed outside Canada, where it is subject to local laws. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only what’s needed to make sure you don’t get emailed again, plus the record of your consent.
- Comments: for as long as the comment is on the site.
- Contact emails: as long as needed to answer you, and then no longer than necessary.
- Analytics: until we no longer need the statistics.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe anytime with the one-click link at the bottom of every email.
- Ask what information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it or delete it.
- Withdraw consent for anything you agreed to.
Just email contact@labbrewer.com and we’ll sort it out, usually within 30 days. These rights apply to everyone, wherever you live, including under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), the EU and UK GDPR, and US state privacy laws. If you’re not happy with our answer, you can also contact your local privacy regulator, such as the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Security
The whole site uses an encrypted HTTPS connection, and access to our accounts is protected. No website is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Children
Lab Brewer is written for adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, tell us and we’ll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we’ll update it here with a new “last updated” date.
